New Website

It's official, I finally have my very own website!  You can link over to the site here.  I wanted to keep it very simple and consistent with the overall feel of this blog and also be a place where I can continue to share my work as I journey towards developing my photographic voice.  I hope you'll drop in sometime soon.

I'm always on the outlook for cool backdrops for portraits.  I love old brick walls which always help to give that extra bit of added character but when you come across bold lines and colours like the one I shot Linda in front of - that just makes my day.  I just love how cool she looks in this shot!

On another note, I'm so excited to soon be announcing something I've been on again, off again working on for the last, okay a long while now.  It's not quite ready yet so I'll hold off just a little longer before making the announcement official but I'm hoping it'll be ready in the very near future...stay tuned for the update.

The Artist + The Photographer

I found these two images while going through some photos stored on my old hard drive.  I had completely forgotten about these.  It was taken in the room that I used to use as my studio and my sister was helping me on a project when I saw her silhouette perfectly framed by the picture on the wall.  I took a couple frames of her and had her take the one of me in the exact same spot.  I kind of like how they turned out - the artist and the photographer.  Actually at this very moment the artist is working on her final portfolio pieces for review tomorrow by her school of choice.  I'm so incredibly proud of my little sister who has already received early admission offers from Emily Carr, OCAD and the Fine Arts program at York.

One final note, the title of this evening's blog entry is inspired by the title of this film that I cannot wait to see.

Newest Addition

Finally picked up a turntable the other weekend from Moog Audio.  I've been wanting one ever since I started  a small collection of vintage LPs when some album art first caught my eye at NDJ Books on Yonge St.  Latest discovery: Joe Jackson's Body and Soul album - it's excellent!

Photoshoot for The Genteel

Last weekend I shot some portraits of the editors at The Genteel.  These are a couple of my favourite shots of the  dynamic duo.  If you're interested in fashion and design and haven't yet stumbled across this online editorial, make sure to check it out here.  Some of my photos (which I probably should have shared during my blogging hiatus!) can also be seen on their website here and here.  More updates on what I've been up to coming shortly!

LIFE.

I posted this one up on my old tumblr blog quite some time ago but I recently received a plaque mounted version of it from a dear friend and thought I would repost its words here.  It's such an awesome reminder of what I value in life and helps me focus my goals...of which I have a growing list for 2012. Anyway I hope its message will somehow inspire you too wherever you are in your journey!

THE HOLSTEE MANIFESTO

12.31.2011

Happy new year everyone!  The holiday has been restful and …. mostly restful.  Catching up on my reading list (that warrants its own post one day) and spending many lazy mornings with the husband and cat.  Well it dawned on me this morning that I have a number of unfinished goals for 2011 that perhaps I should at the very least get started on.  One of which include posting more regularly on this blog … oops.  Well in the spirit of getting an early start on my "goals" list I'm going to post this lovely illustration of linguine that was done by the talented Lillian Chan.  It was meant as a Christmas present for linguine but to be honest it's probably more of a gift for ourselves.  Below it is a photo of linguine so you can see the resemblance.  I have yet to have the print framed and a spot picked out for it in the home but isn't it just great?
